Friends may have ended over a decade ago, but we’re still absolutely obsessed with the coffee-slurping Central Perk gang; even now, we find ourselves watching endless re-runs of old episodes – and we’re always word-perfect with Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow, Joey (Matt le Blanc), Monica (Courteney Cox), Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), Chandler (Matthew Perry), and Ross (David Schwimmer).

However, judging by Kudrow’s recent comments, there was far more going on behind the scenes of that infamous purple apartment than we ever realised.

13 years since the show ended, Kudrow has revealed that she found herself the recipient of an incredibly misogynistic comment after putting some make-up on.

Speaking with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, the 53-year-old explained that she was working with a well-known celebrity, who was appearing in a guest role on the show. During rehearsals, she – much like her co-stars, Cox and Aniston – tended to read through the lines without going through all the rigmaroles of having her hair styled and beauty products applied.

“I rehearsed without make-up [for] most of the week,” said Kudrow. “And then, on show night, I’m in hair and makeup and I was told, ‘Oh wow, NOW you’re’ – can I say it?”

Pausing for confirmation, she looked at Cohen to find out if she was allowed to swear on television – and he nodded.

“[He told me] ‘Now you’re f**kable,’” she finished.

Friends ran for 10 seasons and there were plenty of famous male guest stars, including: Alec Baldwin, John Stamos, Bruce Willis, Sean Penn, George Clooney, Billy Crystal, Robin Williams, Brad Pitt, Gary Oldman, Danny DeVito and Charlie Sheen.

Despite being pressed for further details, Kudrow refused to name the celebrity who made these comments towards her. However, in a bid to dispel rumours, she did confirm it was not Sheen, who popped up as her naval lover, Ryan, in The One With The Chicken Pox.

Taken star Jennifer Beals, who was also appearing on the show, was appalled. “That’s bad behaviour, I say,” she told Kudrow. “Did you retaliate?”

“I told Matt LeBlanc,” laughed Kudrow, suggesting that the Joey Tribbiani actor had put the misogynist guest star firmly in his place as she added: “He’s like a big brother.”

It’s not the first time that a Friends star has addressed the pressures placed upon women in the public eye – particularly with regards to their physical appearance.

During her 2016 appearance on Running Wild With Bear Grylls, Courteney Cox said: “Being a woman in this industry is difficult, and getting older is not the easiest thing. But I have learned lessons.”

Cox went on to address her previous use of cosmetic procedures, explaining: “I was trying to keep up with getting older and trying to chase that. It's something you can't keep up with. The more you relax with it and the less you try...

“Sometimes you find yourself trying and then you look at a picture of yourself and you go ‘oh god, I look horrible.’”

The 52-year-old continued: “I have done things that I regret and luckily there are things that dissolve and go away. So that's good because it's not always been my best look.

“Now I have a new motto; let it be.”
