Elle MacPherson is famous for many things; she’s a supermodel, a businesswoman, and the host of Britain & Ireland’s Next Top Model.
But, for many Friends fans, she will always be Janine LaCroix – aka Joey Tribbiani’s roommate, and eventual girlfriend.
In the show, fans watched as Joey (Matt le Blanc) asked Janine to move in with him, based solely on her good looks.
When he later learned that she was a professional dancer, he fell even deeper into lust with her – although his usually successful “how you doin’?” pick-up line failed to work on her.
Eventually the pair wound up dating, but their relationship proved to be short-lived; Joey didn’t take too kindly to Janine telling him his friends Chandler (Matthew Perry) and Monica (Courteney Cox) were “blah”.
Now, 12 years after the Friends finale aired, MacPherson has hinted that she regrets ever becoming involved in the show.
And she added that, given the chance again, she might have turned the role down altogether.
“If I’d known how important it was in the US, or how long it would be on TV, I may not have chosen to do it,’ she told TV Week.
“It was a lot of pressure if you look at it in the way that it will be around for 20 or 30 years.”
She added that she had been offered more episodes on the show, but she was forced to turn them down because she was “living in London” at the time.
And, while five measly episodes might not sound enough to overshadow a life-long career, the 52-year-old added that constant Friends re-runs have caused her to become famous to an entirely new audience over the years…
“Friends is still very popular where we live in America and re-runs are on constantly," she said.
“[My son and his friends] know me as Janine LaCroix and they are always like, 'Oh you know, Cy's [mom] she is on Friends.’
“They haven't figured out it was nearly 20 years ago, they still think I am on Friends.”
There was one plus point to starring in the show, however.
Sitting down for an interview on The Morning Show, MacPherson was confronted with a photo of her former co-star.
When asked to describe the real-life Joey Tribbiani, she kept things simple.
“Great working partner, good kisser”, she said.
