Emily Blunt reveals the moment she knew John Krasinski was ‘The One’

Emily Blunt has opened up about the very first time she met her husband in an intimate new interview.

Emily Blunt and John Krasinski are, without a doubt, one of our favourite celebrity couples – not least of all because they respect and treat one another as equals.

And now, in a beautifully frank interview, the actress has revealed that she knew Krasinski was ‘The One’ very shortly after meeting him for the first time.

Sitting down with People magazine’s editor-in-chief, Jess Cagle, during the latest episode of his show, The Jess Cagle Interview, Blunt insisted that hers and Krasinski’s is “not a terribly interesting story”.

When pressed, though, she continued to explain that she had gone out for lunch and a catch-up with one of her closest friends.

“[John] was also in the restaurant,” recalled Blunt – although, of course, she did not know it at the time.

“I was sitting with a mutual friend and we were talking and discussing how much I was enjoying being single. And then she said, ‘Oh my god! There’s my friend John.’ And, that was it.”

Cagle asked if she poked fun at Krasinski’s role in his hit show at the time, The Office US, considering it originated in her home country.

Blunt said: “I hadn’t seen his version. I had not seen it. So I did a sort of cram-watch of several seasons.

“I kind of knew who he was but not terribly well. Which he likes to say that I had no idea who he was…but [I say], ‘Then you knew I liked you!’ So, it’s real.”

The actress added she knew Krasinski was ‘The One’ “disarmingly soon” after meeting him.

“We probably knew before that,” she said, smiling at the memory.

Some two years after they first met, the couple were married at a ceremony in Italy’s Lake Como – and, since then, the pair have gone on to welcome two daughters, Hazel and Violet. In fact, Blunt and Krasinski have called their first collaborative movie project, A Quiet Place (in cinemas now) a “love letter” to their children.

A fact which may take some fans by surprise, considering the film definitely falls within the ‘horror’ category.

“When I got the original script, we had just had our daughter three weeks before — our second daughter,” Krasinski told Hello Giggles

“I was in that pretty terrifying phase of new parenthood. I was scared to keep her safe, scared to keep her alive, scared about whether or not I was a good enough person to be her father. And all these things are in this movie.”

Krasinski continued: “As scary as it is — and I love that people are saying it’s a scary movie — the truth of the matter is — and it looks insane from looking at this [movie] poster — this is a love letter to my kids. This is truly a story about, ‘What would you really do for your children in order to protect them?’ The family stuff is so emotional for me.”

Of course, Krasinski has always been a fully paid-up member of the Emily Blunt Fan Club, from long before they ever met – and it all stemmed from his near-obsession with The Devil Wears Prada.

Speaking about it last year, he said: “Before I met Emily, I had seen that movie 75 times – because it’s on TV all the time – so it’s one of the only movies that if you’re channel surfing and you land on that, you have to watch the rest of it.

“Embarrassingly, I think we had only been dating a couple weeks, and she stopped by…and I didn’t know she was stopping by, so when she opened [the door and came in], I quickly flipped the channel. I’m sure she thought I was watching something completely inappropriate, and I actually chose to let her believe that than know that I had been watching The Devil Wears Prada.

Krasinski added: “Later in our relationship, she asked if I had seen The Devil Wears Prada and I said, ‘Yes,’ and she said, ‘How many times?’ And I said, ‘A lot.’ She said, ‘What’s a lot?’ And I said, ‘75 times.’

“I’m lucky enough that she stayed with me and didn’t realise that she had really married her stalker!”
