If you thought 2017 was going to be better than 2016, think again: this is the year that Donald Trump officially replaces Barack Obama as President of the United States of America.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, the 70-year-old reality star has found it difficult to secure an act for his upcoming inauguration. Whereas President Obama enjoyed performances from Aretha Franklin and Beyoncé at his swearing-in ceremonies, Trump has been rejected left, right, and centre by megastars, including Celine Dion and Gene Simmons’ band, Kiss.

Now he has reached out to Rebecca Ferguson (who first came to fame as a runner-up on the 2010 series of X Factor) – and she has said that she will travel to the USA for the ceremony on 20 January.

However she has one very important condition.

Taking to Twitter to confirm that she has been invited to perform at Trump’s inauguration, Ferguson explained: “I’ve been asked.”

However, stopping any critics in their tracks, she went on to explain: “And this is my answer…”

Ferguson wrote: “[I will only say yes if] you allow me to sing Strange Fruit, a song that has huge historical importance, a song that was blacklisted in the United States for being too controversial.”

She continued: “[It is] a song that speaks to all the disregarded and down trodden black people in the United States. A song that is a reminder of how love is the only thing that will conquer all the hatred in this world.”

Ferguson finished by saying that, if these terms are met, she “will graciously accept [Trump’s] invitation and see you in Washington.”

If Ferguson’s demands are met, she will not be alone in performing for Trump; the President-elect has also managed to secure a performance from opera talent Jackie Evancho, the 16-year-old America's Got Talent star who went on to launch a successful solo career.

In an interview with the Today show, Evancho said she was “honored” to perform, but has since gone on to say she’s been cyber-bullied for accepting Trump’s offer.

Despite this, the teenager has insisted that she is still very excited about the concert.

“I feel like it’s going to be a big audience, and I love big audiences,” she told People.
