Ariana Grande is no stranger to paying homage to the strong women in her life through her female-centric anthems. But she can honour her amazing female friendships IRL too, as she proved when Demi Lovato turned up to her London concert.
It’s been a year since Demi Lovato shared the news that she had been hospitalised for her addiction struggles, and explained that she would be taking some time to focusing on her health and recovery.
One year later, and the Cool for the Summer singer, who has always been refreshingly open about her battles with addiction, mental health and eating disorders over the years, has continued to share life updates with her fans. This time around, she had her best friend by her side.
In a touching video shared on Instagram, the Thank U, Next singer and her crew can been seen in a prayer huddle, leading a birthday chant in honour of Lovato. Grande is no stranger to a female-centric anthem of course, and in a touching tribute to the strength of the pair’s friendship, Grande embraces Lovato before Grande hot-foots it off to the stage.
“This was too sweet not to post… before show prayer they did this for my bday,” Lovato captioned the clip. “I’m so proud of you @arianagrande. You f—— killed that!! I love you tons.”
The celebrations didn’t end there, though. After the concert, Lovato posted another video, which shows Grande and her crew backstage cheering her on as she blows out the candles on a birthday cake.
“They literally filmed/sang happy birthday twice and @scotterbraun STILL forgot to press record,” @arianagrande’s face is everything,” Lovato said of Grande, who appears exasperated at her manager.
“This video is a perfect glimpse of how f—— happy and rad my birthday is this year. So so happy. and I love my new family. Thank you guys, love you.”
Lovato also uploaded several photos of the concert to her Instagram stories, showing that she’s taken her heeled boots off because she’d been dancing so much. “When your feet hurt cause you are TOO turnt,” she quipped.
Safe to say, when the heels are off, you know a good time has been had.
