From leaking her own private text messages in the name of comedy and celebrating stretchmarks, to rejecting that annoying #relationshipgoals hashtag, Chrissy Teigen is a genuine Twitter treasure.
The model clearly doesn’t have a publicist sat by her side to carefully monitor each and every single one of her posts before she publishes it. Instead, she keeps things honest and hilarious AF (which is how she wound up getting blocked by President Donald Trump) – and so, when she accidentally posted a picture of her nipple to social media and ruined the days of the perpetually outraged, the Sports Illustrated model opted for a typically bone-dry response.
It kicked off when Teigen shared a Snapchat video of herself while getting a spray tan. Unbeknownst to the cookbook author, one of her nipples made an appearance in the clip – which was immediately pointed out by, ooh, everyone on social media?
Won’t somebody please think of the children?
While men may be allowed to share nip pics galore, it’s not uncommon for Instagram, Facebook and co to remove photos or even to delete whole user accounts permanently without notice for posting nipple or breastfeeding photos. Female nipples are just that controversial, apparently.
The #FreetheNipple campaign hopes to banish the double standards, sexualisation and censorship placed on female breasts on the internet – and, while Teigen hasn’t declared herself a nipple freedom fighter per se, her response to that Snapchat slip-up suggests that she’s as over this unnecessary censorship as the rest of us.
Firstly, she shared a snapshot of the way she found out her nipple had made it onto the internet (and been swiftly deleted by her hard-working assistant).
Then she shared her initial ‘statement’, which read simply: “Whoops”.
And she didn’t stop there, either: instead, Teigen decided to film the best and most tongue-in-cheek ‘apology’ video we’ve ever seen.
Check it out:
Adopting an incredibly sombre expression, Teigen – wrapped in a printed dressing gown – addressed everyone who had been affected by her accidental nipple shot.
“I just want to apologise to everyone I know,” she said. “I've let my friends down, I've let my family down…”
Then came her big ‘confession’ – and it was absolute perfection.
“I have nipples,” said Teigen, with a deprecatory shrug. “It's not something I'm proud of.”
All hail Teigen. Never change.
