Emmy Awards 2018: Chrissy Teigen shuts down body-shamer from the red carpet

The clapback queen strikes again…

It’s no secret that Chrissy Teigen has earned our love and respect a million times over with her “no filter” approach to social media.

Unlike so many other A-listers, she doesn’t have a PR sat by her side to carefully monitor each and every single one of her posts. Instead, she keeps it honest and full of her dry sense of humour. So, when she noticed that some social media users were commenting on her appearance at the 2018 Emmy Awards, she decided to take a break from the glamour and the red carpets to log into Twitter and address the issue.

“I’m asking this with the utmost respectful [sic], but is @chrissyteigen pregnant again?” wrote one user, after spotting Teigen on the red carpet with her husband, John Legend.

Pointing out that it’s been less than five months since she gave birth to her son, Miles Theodore Stephens, Teigen replied: “I just had a baby but thank you for being soooo respectful.”

Teigen also retweeted a comment from KCEN news anchor Heidi Alagha which read: “Chrissy Teigen is beautiful but does she have to be included in everything just because she’s married to John Legend?”

Rather than point out that her own TV show, Lip Sync Battle, had been nominated for an Emmy, Teigen simply chose to bite her tongue… and, you know, expose Alagha’s inept reporting skills to the online masses.

“Breathe, Chrissy,” she wrote.

While Teigen’s clapbacks got a lot of love from her fans, a number of other trolls followed Alagha and Alexandersson out from under their metaphorical bridge.

And, after scanning through a slew of cruel body-shaming comments and misogynist jibes, a weary Teigen felt forced to tweet: “Man, you guys are brutal.”

Thankfully, though, Teigen will never stop fighting the good fight online, particularly when it comes to encouraging other women to love and accept their bodies.

Case in point? Earlier this year, Teigen posted a series of videos, images and thoughts about body confidence earlier this year, which saw her celebrate her “mom bod”.

“Mom bod alert!” Teigen tweeted alongside a video of herself in a swimsuit. (“Mosquito bites are a nice touch,” she added.)

“Instagram is crazy,” she added in a later Tweet. “I think it’s awesome people have killer bodies are are proud to show them off (I really do!!) but I know how hard it can be to forget what (for lack of a better word) regular ol’ bodies look like when everyone looks bonkers amazing.”

Teigen stressed that for her, body confidence is a work in progress, and something she is constantly striving to achieve.

“I’m not quite there yet,” she tweeted. “I’m still super insecure. I’m just happy that I can make anyone else out there feel better about themselves.”
