Charles Saatchi rarely gives interviews. Even after letting Stylist drip six colours of acrylic paint down his face to get one up on his wife, last December’s cover star Nigella Lawson, he doesn’t want to formally chat.
Which makes granting permission to ruin his suit (and hair) all the more surprising. It stems from an endearing battle with Nigella, who appeared on issue 105 with salted caramel drizzling down her face. Delightedly, he tells us she will only discover he’s posed for us when she opens the magazine.
So here it is, Nigella – surprise!

After conquering the ad industry in the eighties, Charles is now best known for his love of art – which he warmly discusses with us pre-paint dip. We couldn’t have made this issue without him. He let us move into his gallery and daub him in paint for the sake of art (and a limited edition cover). For both, we will always be grateful. Thank you, Charles.
