This is why Cardi B kept her pregnancy a secret until now

Cardi B has confirmed that she is pregnant with her and fiancé Offset’s first child.

For months, there have been Cardi B pregnancy rumours swirling around the internet – which the rapper has made a point of shutting down. In fact, back in February, she told one Instagram commenter: “No bitch I’m just getting fat. Let me fat in peace.”

Now, though, Cardi B has confirmed her pregnancy – and she decided to do so during a performance on Saturday Night Live, via a fitted white dress which highlighted her growing baby bump.

After the show, she exclaimed happily, “I’m finally free!”

Naturally, Cardi B’s social media pages were flooded with congratulatory messages after the big reveal.

Taking to social media to thank her fans and well-wishers (especially music superstar Rihanna) for their well-wishes, the musician wrote on Instagram: “The love I’m receiving is overwhelming, and I can’t thank you enough for always finding the time to share your support!”

“Thank you a million times @badgalriri,” she added.

However, there were also those who criticised the rapper for refusing to go public with her news until now.

Responding to these trolls in an Instagram Stories post (which has since been deleted), Cardi B wrote: “This is why I did not want to say nothing.

“People be so thirsty to scrutinise and try to destroy something that it supposes to be a blessing.”

Of course, she is not the first celebrity to attempt to keep her personal life personal: Mindy Kaling, who welcomed her first child in December 2017, didn’t confirm her pregnancy until August that same year.

“It’s so unknown to me,” the Wrinkle In Time actress explained. “I have a lot of control over a lot of aspects of my life, and this is one where I’m like, ‘OK, it’s out of my hands,’ which is kind of a fun feeling”.

Oprah Winfrey had already inadvertently spilled the beans about Kaling’s pregnancy to People the month before – a mishap the actress handled well.

Mindy told Ellen DeGeneres in October: “If anyone is going to announce big news about your private life, Oprah Winfrey is the person. You can’t complain that much about it. And you also can’t be like, ‘Hey, Oprah, zip it’ — because she’s almost like a religious figure. So if there’s one person I have to tell my daughter about that revealed her existence to the world, Oprah is pretty good.”

Of course, Cardi B – much like Kaling – had a talk show host break her happy news before she was quite ready.

Wendy Williams spilled the beans during Friday’s episode of her show, saying, “a little birdie flew in my ear and told me that tomorrow night on Saturday Night Live is when Cardi B is going to announce to you that she is pregnant.”

On Saturday, Cardi responded on Twitter accordingly:

“I started winning when the whole world was doubting on me!” the rapper added.

“Think imma lose with my little baby counting on me?”

According to TMZ, Cardi B is due to welcome her first child in July – and she will still be performing at this year’s Coachella festival.
