Cara Delevingne on the meaning of life and her “liquid sexuality”
By Anna Pollitt
Updated 8 years ago
Cara Delevingne has landed Vogue's coveted September issue - in which she reveals she's discovered the meaning of life.
And?
"Now I know the meaning of life is love," the 23-year-old model-turned-actress reveals.
"Whether that's for yourself or for the world or your partner."
Delevingne has quit modelling to make it in Hollywood but is appearing in the fashion bible to promote her new film Suicide Squad, and share her insight on life, love and "liquid sexuality."
"I'm completely in love … Before, I didn't know what love was - real love," she goes on. "I didn't understand the depth of it."
The British star has been dating US singer-songwriter Annie Clark, aka St Vincent, for three years and spoke in the same magazine last year about being taken by surprise when she fell in love with a woman.
"It took me a long time to accept the idea [of being attracted to women], until I first fell in love with a girl at 20 and recognised that I had to accept it," she said.
In her latest interview, accompanied by a Mario Testino photoshoot, Delevingne stops short of defining herself as gay, and says she views her own sexuality as "liquid."
"I'm obviously in love, so if people want to say I'm gay, that's great. But we're all liquid - we change, we grow."
On her passion for acting:
I'm still learning. I act for love. I give it my all.
I would probably still do it even if I wasn't paid at all.
On smashing Hollywood's gender pay gap:
In terms of equal pay I need to be paid the same as the guy who has equal billing with me. Otherwise I won't do it. Because if you accept less, you're just letting everyone else down and continuing the cycle.
On the downfall of having millions of fans:
My greatest fear is always that I have just been hired because of my number of followers.
September's Vogue is on sale from Thursday, August 4.
