Her husband Javier Bardem has hit headlines with his brilliant turn in Bond flick Skyfall, and now Penelope Cruz is garnering her own column inches by unveiling her 2013 Campari calendar. The Oscar-winning actress presented next year's project at a cocktail party in Milan last night (13 November), joining a gallery of iconic Campari faces including Salma Hayek, Jessica Alba and Eva Mendes.

Campari is famed for bringing together some of the world's most beautiful stars and world-class photographers in its sumptuous annual calendars, which are characterised by dramatic, intricate and highly stylised imagery. Take a look at some of the stunning campaign photos from Penelope's shoot, along with those from years gone by, in our Campari retrospective below.

The shoot sees Penelope interacting with common superstitions, such as black cats, broken mirrors, walking under ladders and walking on pavement cracks.

Penelope said, "I have really enjoyed starring in it, I found the superstitious theme extremely intriguing and stimulating.

"It's been a pleasure to work with such a talented and professional team, particularly Kristian Schuller, the calendar photographer, since I really admire his work."

"As an actress I am often challenged to portray the ‘unexplainable’ and this shoot was no different," the Vicky Cristina Barcelona star continued.

"We created a character who had to portray a strong, positive attitude, and really get to the heart of each superstition and dispel these myths by promoting confidence. I hope people enjoy the photos as much as we have enjoyed creating them."

Photographer Kristian Schuller was equally enthusiastic.

"Working with Penelope was a dream," he said. "She fully embraced the photo shoot and brought the theme to life with such passion and confidence, ensuring she was the central focus in every shot!"

Only 9,999 copies of the calendar are printed each year and they will be distributed to friends of Campari internationally, rather than going on sale.
