Hold on to your big knickers Bridget Jones fans, because Bridget is officially back, and she's swapping her diary for an iPad.
The first official picture of the third installment in the series, Bridget Jones's Baby, has been released, and it's got everyone pretty excited.
It features a close-up of a smiling Renee Zellweger, aka Bridget, holding her red diary close to her chest. Except this time, instead of a good old fashioned paper diary, it's an iPad.
Because, you know, Bridget has now embraced all things technology and will probably be tweeting all her relationship woes. Well, she does in Helen Fielding's latest novel in any case.
The teaser was tweeted by production company Working Title, alongside the caption, “Bridget is back! Renée Zellweger returns as Bridget Jones in BRIDGET JONES'S BABY”.
It comes a year after Renee Zellweger teased us with the ‘it would be fun’ comment about reprising her role, and now filming has finally kicked off, with Colin Firth and Patrick Dempsey (yes, Dr McDreamy himself) on board.
Talk about the film as a serious goer first began in 2012, but was reportedly stalled by script issues and Hugh Grant’s indecision over whether to get involved.
By 2013, with still no word on when filming would begin, Firth said in an interview: “The way it’s going, you might be seeing Bridget Jones’s granddaughter’s story being told by the time we get there,” and sometime last year Grant finally made a decision; he’s out.
Filming kicked off this month here in the UK, with Patrick Dempsey sharing a behind-the-scenes snap on Instagram
Though we don't know much about the film yet, we do know the story will pick up after Bridget’s 40th birthday, when she's desperate to have a child.
But while creator Helen Fielding’s third Bridget Jones book Mad About The Boy saw the protagonist widowed following Mark Darcy’s death, the film will offer an alternative version of events.
It’s thought the script – written by Fielding and One Day author David Nicholls (with reported involvement from Emma Thompson) – is based on newspaper columns written by Fielding rather than the novel which took a tragic twist.
If you just let out a sign of relief for Mark and Bridget’s relationship however, don’t get comfortable.
Grey’s Anatomy star Dempsey has reportedly just signed up to play a love interest in the film, with many supposing there’ll be a ‘who’s the daddy’ plotline as Bridget embarks upon motherhood.
