With the result of the US election causing women to feel discouraged and afraid for their futures, more and more high-profile stars are speaking out about Donald Trump and using their influence to offer words of wisdom.

Blake Lively is the latest to share her views on the president and her advice for how women can move forward under his administration.

Speaking at Variety's Power of Women event in New York when asked about her concerns for women under Trump, Lively joked: "Do we really have to narrow it down?"

But she then got very serious, speaking candidly about her concerns.

“There's a lot that's worrying me as a woman, as a mother, and not just that, but as a human being who cares about other human beings and our rights and our liberties and what we value," she said.

"And I feel very grateful on the other hand, that we're becoming so much more conscious and we're becoming so much more involved.”

Lively added: “We're becoming active and I feel like there's an awakening that's happened. And so if I look for the silver lining, that's the awakening.”

Clarifying what she thinks we should be doing to promote positive change, she said: “We can't just retweet things. We have to actually do something about it. And I see that happening all around me and I see myself doing that, and that's powerful.”

She concluded: “If we want to change the world, we have to do it ourselves. I think we are and I think we will.”

Lively, 29, has previously dished out advise for women discouraged by Trump’s election, preaching love over hate shortly after he was elected.

“Just use your voice. Don't let anybody silence you, ever,” she told ELLE.com on the red carpet.

“It's about spreading love, you know? Because that's the easy thing to do right now, to say – women, you get angry or you get upset or you get hurt and you want to lash out, but what we're combating is hate. So it's about spreading love and using your voice.”

And she isn’t afraid to practice what she preaches in terms of pursuing activism. She was outspoken on social media in encouraging people to vote to against Trump’s misogynist policies last year, and attended the Women’s March in February “for my daughters.” Lively is mother to baby Ines, and James, age two.
