Stop whatever you’re doing right now, because Beyoncé has just announced that she and Jay-Z are pregnant with twins.

The Lemonade singer announced the news on 1 February – and, of course, she announced it in the most 21^st century-way possible: on Instagram.

In a post on her personal page, the 20-time Grammy winner published a photograph of herself, accompanied by the announcement. In the image, Beyoncé is wearing only pastel blue ruffled knickers, a burgundy mesh bra and a long, green veil draped atop her head. The 35-year-old is holding her pregnant stomach and kneeling in front of an enormous floral backdrop. It’s nothing short of a work of art: a modern-day Virgin Mary. 

The caption reads: “We would like to share our love and happiness. We have been blessed two times over. We are incredibly grateful that our family will be growing by two, and we thank you for your well wishes. - The Carters.”

The post does not reveal the couple’s due date, but it looks as though it’s a secret the pair have been keeping for quite some time.

It’s a pregnancy announcement rivaled only by her own in 2011 – which she made at the MTV Music Awards by simply unbuttoning her jacket and rubbing her stomach, following her performance of Love on Top.

The couple, who married at a secret ceremony in 2008 after having been dating for eight years, are also parents to five-year-old Blue Ivy Carter.

In 2013, the singer revealed in her documentary, Life is But a Dream, that she had previously suffered a miscarriage, and later said that the joy of being pregnant was “very much like falling in love”.

Accompanying the announcement, Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles Lawson, took to her own Instagram to celebrate the news, saying “WOW I don't have to keep the secret anymore," she wrote. "I am soooo happy God is so good twin blessings.”

The singer is set to perform at The Grammy Awards on the 12th Feburary, where she is nominated in a whopping nine categories, and at two headline events in April’s Coachella festival.
