Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson are teaming up for a new movie – with a title inspired by new US president Donald Trump.

The film, Nasty Women, will be a gender-flipped remake of classic conman comedy Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, with Hathaway and Wilson taking on the lead roles. The title is a reference to Trump’s now-infamous description of Hillary Clinton during a televised debate.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels hit cinemas in 1988, and starred Steve Martin and Michael Caine as two rival conmen – one a cocky American hustler, the other a suave English con artiste – trying their luck on the French Riviera.

Wilson is producing the female-led reboot, according to the Hollywood Reporter. While little is known about the plot, the Guardian reports that Nasty Women is expected to explore class differences in a similar manner to the original, as Wilson and Hathaway’s characters team up to try and con a tech billionaire out of his money. (The conmen’s ‘mark’ in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, in contrast, was a wealthy and naïve American heiress.)

Since Trump used the phrase during the third US presidential debate in October 2016, “nasty woman” has been reclaimed as a feminist battle cry, becoming a viral hashtag and charity t-shirt slogan almost overnight.

The Nasty Women movie isn’t the first gender-swapping project Hathaway is involved in: she also has a role in Ocean’s Eight, the upcoming female spinoff from the Ocean’s Eleven franchise. Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner were recently spotted filming cameos in the heist movie, which features an all-star female cast including Sandra Bullock, Rihanna, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter and Sarah Paulson.

Paulson recently shut down the suggestion that having lots of women in one cast will inevitably lead to on-set feuds. “I’ve never had anything like that happen on [the Ocean’s Eight] set,” said the star of The People vs. O.J. Simpson.

She added: “I promise you it would not be like that if a bunch of boys would get together – ‘bro fights’. I hate to support that narrative or that idea and it certainly couldn’t be further from the truth.”

Other forthcoming gender-reversed remakes are the Disney reboot of Splash, in which Channing Tatum takes on the role of the mermaid previously played by Daryl Hannah. Disney is also reportedly developing a new version of 1991 WW2 action-adventure The Rocketeer, with a black woman playing the lead role instead of a white man.
