Amy Schumer reveals why she's such a generous tipper

We can count about 631, 678 reasons why we love Amy Schumer.

After taking the world by storm with her no holds barred, feminist comedy, she’s rebuffed the sexist trope that women are comedy duds one thousand times over as one of the most successful stars in the business.

And after making headlines for tipping the staff at the Hamilton musical bar $1000 (£775) for a $77 (£59) bill, the girl after our own hearts has a thing or two to say about why she’s known as one of the most generous humans in the world of celebrity.

Speaking to Howard Stern on his radio show on American station Sirus XM, the star said she leaves tips because “she worked in the service industry for 10 years”.

“For me, when I was living in a studio in Astoria, if somebody left me $1,000 that would change my month,” she said.

Schumer added that she would “feel guilty about having money if I wasn’t giving.”

“I feel fine about having money. I take care of my family, my friends,” said the star.

“I think I might feel guilty about having money if I wasn’t giving. It’s because it does make me feel great and I feel like I have no other choice."

The star also was also applauded for buying a store employee a $2,000 mattress after she let her use the shop’s bathroom in a moment of need.

“Other places were like ‘no,’” she said, recounting the tale.

“But this woman, she was just sweet. You know when you just see someone and you’re like ‘I just love you.’ I said ‘I’d like to buy it for you.’ She didn’t recognise me or anything. And then I saw that it became like news.”

Bemused by the public’s reaction to her generosity, Schumer said that more celebrities should indulge in the gift of giving.

“Are people with money not doing stuff like this?,” she asked. “I think they should do more, because you’ll feel better. And then they’ll do that for someone else, you hope.”
