Amy Adams made her Emmy debut with two nominations for Sharp Objects, but the internet is outraged about what happened next…
The Emmys 2019 was a night that celebrated people in the industry who were long overdue some credit.
It was a defiant celebration of the LGBTQ+ community, with Pose’s Billy Porter making history as the the first gay black man to win Outstanding Actor.
Michelle Williams’ acceptance speech on equal pay was hailed the “best speech ever” as she picked up her Best Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie award for her role as Gwen Verdon in Fosse/Verdon.
And Phoebe Waller-Bridge could barely hold all her awards for Fleabag.
It was an incredible night, but there is one actor that the internet feels was unfairly overlooked… again.
Amy Adams attended the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards wearing a long, black mesh Fendi gown. Surprisingly, it was the star’s first time at the event. That’s because she was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her part in HBO’s Gillian Flynn adaptation of Sharp Objects. The show, which Adams co-produced, was also up for Outstanding Limited Series. But Adams walked away empty handed.
Williams was of course a very worthy winner of the Lead Actress Accolade, but fans are asking why Adams continues to be snubbed at award ceremonies. She has also been nominated for six Academy Awards, but has never won. And out of the eight Golden Globe nominations she has received, Adams has twice won the Award for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical.
For many fans, this just isn’t enough.

Cue: a cry of injustice and outrage on Twitter.
To be fair, they might have a point. Adams has served up some stellar performances in some brilliant films over the years. She charmed audiences in Enchanted, gave a chilling performance in Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals and went all sci-fi in smart blockbuster Arrival. And that’s just a handful of examples.
Here’s what people had to say:
“Amy Adams lost? SHE’S LITERALLY THE EMBODIMENT OF TALENT,” cried one fan.
Another couldn’t hide his disappointment, writing: “Trying to hold it together because I literally thought Amy Adams was finally going to win.”
A third referenced a poignant scene from Sharp Objects, writing: “Every time Amy Adams loses an award I remember that one gif of Adora removing the pen out of Camille’s hand, that someone on twitter captioned as, ‘Patricia when she sees Amy Adams writing her acceptance speech.” No one will top that tweet.”
And a fourth added: “This Emmy was hers. And period. Amy Adams, thank you for the best performance I’ve watched. Your Camille Preaker was impeccable and she’ll stay with me forever. Thank you for diving in so deep and disappearing completely to share her complexity with us all.”
But, as one Twitter user asserted: “Amy Adams doesn’t need a fucking award bc she IS the award #Emmys.”
There are clearly a lot of feelings around this, but we’re sure that one day Adams will get the award she deserves. We just hope that Twitter doesn’t crash when that happens.
