Amber Heard and Johnny Depp have ended their high-profile divorce battle, reaching a settlement that sees Heard receive an undisclosed sum of money and drop her domestic abuse case against the Pirates of the Caribbean actor.

The actress' lawyers also filed a dismissal of her temporary restraining order against Depp.

In a joint statement, Heard and Depp acknowledged that their relationship had been “volatile”, saying: “Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love.”

The statement said there was no “intent” to cause physical harm and confirmed that Heard intends to donate financial proceeds from the divorce to an unspecified charity – a move which would seem to go against previous claims from Depp’s lawyers, filed in court papers, that she was trying to “secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse”.

“Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm,” the statement continues. “Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future.

“[She] will be donating financial proceeds from the divorce to a charity. There will be no further public statements about this matter.”

The 30-year-old actress, who began a relationship with Depp after they met on the set of 2011 film The Rum Diary, filed for divorce in May 2016.

She obtained a temporary restraining order against the actor, accusing him of being physically and emotionally abusive throughout their relationship.

"During the entirety of our relationship, Johnny has been verbally and physically abusive to me," the actress had stated.

"I endured excessive emotional, verbal and physical abuse from Johnny, which has included angry, hostile, humiliating and threatening assaults to me whenever I questioned his authority or disagreed with him."

She submitted photographs of bruising around her cheek and eye and pictures of the alleged damage to their home to the court, and said in her statement that Depp had been “obsessing over something that wasn’t true” with “paranoid and irrational accusations about some delusional idea he was having”.

Heard’s friend Raquel Pennington, who is said to have turned up at the residence during the incident, submitted a separate statement and described how Depp picked up an open magnum-sized bottle of wine and “began swinging it like a baseball bat” before “using the bottle to smash everything he could”.

Io Tillett Wright, another friend of Heard’s, later wrote in an essay for Refinery 29: “The reports of violence started with a kick on a private plane, then it was shoves and the occasional punch, until finally, in December, she described an all-out assault and she woke up with her pillow covered in blood.

"I know this because I went to their house. I saw the pillow with my own eyes. I saw the busted lip and the clumps of hair on the floor.”

Depps lawyers stated in court papers: “Amber is attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse. Her current application for a temporary restraining order along with her financial requests appear to be in response to the negative media attention she received earlier this week after filing for divorce.”

Heard and Depp settled their divorce, along with here domestic abuse case against him, on the evening before their scheduled court hearing.

This news came shortly after photographic evidence was leaked, which showed a mirror the words “starring Billy Bob and Easy Amber” written across it in blue paint and blood.

Heard’s team have claimed that the photo, along with one taken of Depp’s severed finger, was taken in Australia in March 2015, shortly after he had allegedly flown into a jealous rage, accusing Heard of having an affair with actor Billy Bob Thornton. Both Thornton and Heard have denied the affair.

Depp has repeatedly denied the allegations made against him.

Speaking a few months ago, his representatives told the press: “Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation and lies about his personal life.

“Hopefully the dissolution of this short marriage will be resolved quickly.”
