As if we needed another reason to love Adele, it’s just been revealed that the singer has refused US presidential hopeful Donald Trump permission to use her music at his rallies.

The Republican hopeful had been using Rolling In The Deep with its line “We could have had it all” and Skyfall’s “When it crumbles, we will stand tall, face it all together” during his campaign, leading Adele fans to complain on Twitter. “I think she's cringing as much as we are ... wish he would drown in the deep. The bigot,” wrote one.  

The backlash has led the singer’s spokesperson to confirm the state of play with The Independent. “Adele has not given permission for her music to be used for any political campaigning,” they said. 

Adele isn’t alone in speaking out against her music being used by Trump; Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler has ordered the American billionaire to stop using his power ballad Dream On and even gone as far as sending sent a cease-and-desist letter to his campaign committee.

And it's not just Donald Trump. There's a history of musicians giving politicians a frosty reception when it comes to utilising their music on the campaign trail. Bruce Springsteen wouldn’t let Ronald Reagan use his tune Born In The USA in 1984 and Thom Yorke said he’d sue David Cameron if he used Radiohead’s music to promote the Conservatives in 2015.
