Academy Awards 2019: Lady Gaga just taught us a valuable lesson about failure

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper gave an emotionally-charged performance of A Star Is Born’s ‘Shallow’ at the 91st Academy Awards.

And, just moments later, the duo were stunned to learn that their soaring duet had been named the Best Original Song of the 2019 Oscars.

Stepping up to collect the statuette alongside Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt, a trembling Lady Gaga (real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta) thanked the Academy for granting her such an incredible honour. She then went on to thank “every single person in the room”, including her “sister” and “soulmate”, Natali, and her director and co-star Cooper for “believing in her”.

Gaga then went on to remind everyone watching at home that it’s no lucky accident that she has been awarded such a high honour at the Oscars: it’s down to hard work, pure and simple.

“If you’re are at home and you’re sitting on your couch, all I have to say is that this is hard work,” she said.

“I’ve worked hard for a long time and it’s not about winning but what it’s about is not giving up. If you have a dream, fight for it.”

Gaga finished by saying: “There’s a discipline of our passion and it’s not about how many times you get rejected.

“It’s about how many times you stand up and are brave and you keep on going.”
