Our wildest dreams are coming true.
On 9 August, Taylor Swift took the opportunity of the final show of her Eras tour in Los Angeles to drop some big news: 1989 (Taylor’s Version) is coming. The album, which will see Swift re-release music from her 2014 album, will be the singer’s fourth re-record, following Fearless, Red and Speak Now.
“Here we are on the last night of the US leg of the Eras tour in the eighth month of the year on the ninth day of the month,” she said, as the crowd began to scream. “You may have noticed there’s some new outfits in the show,” she went on, referring to a number of blue looks that she’d worn throughout the evening.
“There’s something that I’ve been planning for a really, really, really, ridiculously, embarrassingly long time… and instead of just, like, telling you about it, I think I’ll just sort of show you,” Swift continued, as a banner revealing the new artwork for the album along with the 27 October release date appeared behind her.
The live announcement was followed by an Instagram post, in which she said she felt “such excitement” at the announcement.
“Surprise!! 1989 (Taylor’s Version) is on its way to you 🔜!” the singer wrote in the caption. “The 1989 album changed my life in countless ways… To be perfectly honest, this is my most FAVOURITE re-record I’ve ever done because the 5 From The Vault tracks are so insane. I can’t believe they were ever left behind. But not for long!”
