How do you feel about money? A new survey has found that it’s still a major stress factor for most of us.
There’s no denying that the last few years have been difficult for many of us when it comes to cash. With an ongoing cost of living crisis, rent prices at an all-time high and unaffordable childcare options for parents, it’s easy to feel that everything we earn is instantly earmarked for necessities.
Now, yet another study has found that money remains a major issue for many in the UK, with nearly a third of people reporting that they currently feel ‘negatively’ about their financial situation. Those surveyed said that this increased their stress levels and led to a lower quality of life, with 15% saying that their relationship with money led to their mental health worsening.
The research, which was undertaken by credit card provider Aqua, found that almost four in five people say that they have recently made a financial mistake. Impulsive spending and not adding to savings frequently enough are two major reasons for this.

As well as sharing their financial concerns, those who took part in the study were asked what the best financial lesson they’d learned was. The ability to save and budget was the most beneficial financial lesson and was cited by 28% of UK adults. Creating and sticking to a budget followed close behind, and financial literacy (eg knowing how to invest) was said to be essential for making informed decisions about money, yet 20% wish they had acquired this knowledge sooner.
