Miso ice cream: yum or yuk?

She might not have made the final five but for the brief few weeks Aki Matsushima did grace our TV screens in the eighth series of Masterchef, she was one of the most loveable, eccentric and watchable contestants we’ve seen. And now she’s back, turning one of her most famous dishes from the series – Miso ice cream – into a commercial success thanks to GINO Gelato.

On the 18 March, Aki will be giving away free samples of 10 new Japanese-inspired gelati at GINO’s shop in London’s Covent Garden and then giving you the chance to cast your vote on which flavour you would like to stay on the menu. As well as the now famous miso-caramel ice cream (which Michel Roux Jr. raved about on the show), Aki will also be premiering flavours like Japanese plum wine and honey and green tea white chocolate stracciatella all created with the help of ‘ice cream king, Palmiro Bruschi.

With Masterchef drawing to a tense conclusion next week (visit stylist.co.uk for our instant analysis on the action), it’s good to see that at least one of the runners up is capitalising on their success on the show. Well done Aki and, if you need some guinea pigs to taste any of your stuff, you only have to ask.
