Watch the official trailer for Bridget Jones' Baby

It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for: the first official trailer for Bridget Jones’ Baby has arrived.

Starring Renée Zellweger, Colin Firth and newcomer, Patrick Dempsey, the trailer is packed full of classic Bridget moments, and does not disappoint (save for the missing Hugh Grant).

The franchise returns over a decade after the previous instalment, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, which saw Bridget and Darcy have another happy ending.

Sadly for Bridget, this doesn’t last long, as the opening of the trailer for Bridget Jones’ Baby sees her heartbroken with Celine Dion’s All By Myself once again playing in the background as Bridget sits home alone, munching on a cupcake.

But this time, instead of singing along, Bridget switches off the music, telling the radio to: “Oh f**k off.”

Because, as her voice over later tells us, Bridget is “absolutely loving [her] new life.”

Empowered, successful and happy, we see Bridget dancing with friends, producing the news and heading to music festivals. Of course, she does this with her usual aplomb, and we also see her fall head-first into the Glastonbury mud.

In an exciting twist, Bridget meets a new man – Grey’s Anotomy’s McDreamy (Patrick Dempsey), has a fling with her old man, Darcy (Colin Firth), gets pregnant and spends the trailer trying to determine who’s the daddy.

There's also a surprise appearance from Emma Thompson who plays Bridget's doctor during her ultrasound scan.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Colin Firth says that Dempsey’s character “threatens Mark Darcy in a very, very different way than Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant) ever did.”

But he gives no spoilers, saying:

“There are various mysteries to be resolved, who does she end up with? Whose baby is it?”

Renée Zellweger recently revealed that - in order to protect the ending as much as possible – the cast have filmed three possible endings. Telling the Sunday Express, Zellweger says:

“It's kind of brilliant. None of the cast knows who fathered Bridget's baby or who she'll choose as her beau. The plan is to keep us all in the dark, right up to the premiere.”

Fans of Helen Fielding’s original Bridget books were anxious that Darcy would not appear in the film, because *spoiler alert* he is killed off in the books, but the films are based, instead, on the author’s Bridget columns so, thankfully, we can expect a lot of classically awkward moments.

Although we don’t see it in the trailer, we can also look forward to Bridget’s mum, Pamela (Gemma Jones) running for mayor, and her usual crowd of ram shackle friends joining in on her adventures.

The end of the trailer sees the brilliant Emma Thompson (who also contributed to the script) make a cameo as a doctor giving Bridget an ultrasound.

Bridget Jones’ Baby is directed by Sharon Maguire (Bridget Jones’ Diary) and will arrive in cinemas nationwide on 18 September.
