The artists competing for this year’s Turner Prize have finally been announced by Tate Britain.
Spartacus Chetwynd, Luke Fowler, Paul Noble and Elizabeth Price are the names to know, and the four shortlisted artists will go head to head for one of the most coveted art prizes in the world. The winner will receive a cash award of £25,000 with £5,000 going to each of the shortlisted artists.

Showcasing modern sculpture, drawing, film installations and mixed media artwork, the four artists’ artistic explorations are just as broad - taking in history, consumerism, social spaces and the world of performance.

Spartacus Chetwynd creates sculptural installations using handmade costumes and sets; Luke Fowler’s previous work includes a recent film on the life and work of Scottish psychiatrist, R. D. Laing; Elizabeth Price uses film also, but fuses it together with music and text to explore our complex relationship with consumerism; while Paul Noble takes up paper and pen to create painstakingly intricate technical drawings.

Sure to be yet another intriguing Turner Prize selection, the work of Chetwynd, Fowler, Price and Noble will be on display in an exhibition at Tate Britain in London from October 20 2012 until January 20 2013. The winner will be announced live on Channel 4 on December 3.
