The British accent is the most attractive in the world according to a new international survey.

It beat the likes of the French, Spanish and Italian accents in Time Out's The World of Dating in 2015 poll, with over a quarter (26.7%) of the 11,000 people surveyed in 24 cities, voting it as the most 'dateable' foreign accent in the world.

It won by a considerable margin, where the American accent came in at second place with only 8.7% of the votes, followed by Irish and Australian accents. The French accent came in at fifth place with with just 7.7% of the votes. 

However, when it came to testing cities for their dating scene, the survey found Paris to be the best thanks to its romantic attitudes and high number of singletons.

London was the sixth best city for romance, where the top five included unexpected destinations for dating such as Melbourne, Kuala Lumpur, Beijing and Chicago.

New Yorkers appeared to be least happiest daters with 45% or respondents describing themselves as 'sad to be single'. Meanwhile, sydney was the most single-minded city with 31% saying they're proud to be single.

Those surveyed were also questioned about dating etiquette. Over half (53 per cent) of respondents kiss on the first date and one in 10 believe sex on a first date is acceptable. The average number of dates reached before having sex is 3.53.

Meanwhile, most respondents considered it acceptable to stop seeing other people after six dates and declare yourselves as an official item after nine dates.
