From the cherries to the peach, these are the top 10 emojis used during sexting

It’s official: the world has gone emoji mad. This week, the Oxford Dictionary revealed that its word of the year was not actually a word but… you’ve got it, an emoji.

We’ve had a slew of new emojis, from vagina and penis emojis, to feminist emojis; we’ve been told emoji is the fastest growing language in the world and we’ve even learned that our favourite emojis can speak volumes about the inner-workings of our subconscious. They're also perfect when our mind is just too dirty to put into sentences.

Now, the top 10 emojis used for sexting have been revealed in a survey conducted by Durex.

The results, which surmised the responses of 1,000 16-25 year olds, revealed that 53% were regularly using emojis when discussing sex, and that 84% found it more comfortable to discuss sex in this way.

Interestingly, 2 out of 5 men admitted to using emojis because they found them more ‘suggestive’.

But, with a lack of any official Apple sex-mojis, what are people’s go-to way of expressing getting down and dirty? Here are the top 10...

Yes, we were surprised, too, that the banana usurped the Aubergine - because it reminded us more of David Miliband - but we can’t argue with official statistics.

Despite the light-hearted nature of this news, Durex actually commissioned the survey for a greater cause. Their research revealed that over a third of respondents said they didn’t care about safe sex and, shockingly, that 25% of young people think HIV is something predominantly confined to Africa.

As a response, Durex have designed their own condom emoji for safe sexting, in a bid to pressure emoji makers to create one for all smartphones. The emoji has been designed ahead of World AIDS Day - on 1 December - in a hope to dispel the apparent awkwardness surrounding their use.
