Squad goals? New Tinder-style friendship app seeks to revolutionise our social life

Most of our closest friendships were born at school, at university or in our first jobs. The older we get, the more difficult it feels to expand our circles and make new best friends.

Well a new Tinder-style app is looking to make it easier for women to make those connections, whether it's to meet someone who shares your passions, to grow your professional network or to locate someone to spend a free Sunday afternoon with.

"It's super easy to find a date on the Internet, but why isn't it as easy to find a new friend?" says Olivia June Poole, cofounder of app Hey! VINA, in an interview with Fast Company.

"We built this app to solve for our own needs as women who have moved, traveled, changed careers, and shifted lifestyles and life stages. Through our adult lives we go a lot of places that our existing friendships don't always support and it becomes time to expand our circles."

The women-only app, which is currently being tested in San Francisco and New York, starts by asking users to connect to your Facebook account to verify their identity and that they're female.

Next, it asks users six quick questions to decipher their personality type, for example whether they're coffee or wine drinkers, and if they consider themselves introverted or extroverted.

There’s also a profile section which allows individuals to specify what they're looking for in a potential new bestie.

The app then takes a users interests, personality-type and lifestyle into consideration and suggests various women for them to get in touch with.

For example, if you're single and need a fantastic wing-lady or you're training for a marathon and are looking for a support buddy, the app will find you the closest matches.

Once you find someone you would like to spark a friendship with, you can swipe right (as per Tinder).

The app automatically introduces you to save any delayed or awkward first messages.

"We hope women find their new best friends, traveling partners, brunch dates, wing girls, mommy friends, workout partners, etc. on the platform," says Poole.

"The goal is for the app to work as an introduction tool, an easy way to step into a new place or new part of your life and easily find new friends who are similar to you."

See there really isn't an app for everything yet. But this is one we can certainly get behind.
