It’s official; Christmas has definitely come early this year (and, by god, we needed it).
Geri Horner, Emma Bunton, and Mel B have been working together in the studio for months now, preparing for their hugely-anticipated Spice Girls reunion – and now a brand-new song has made its way onto the internet.
With Victoria Beckham and Mel C declining to be involved in the celebrations for the 21st anniversary of Wannabe, Baby, Ginger, and Scary have been styling themselves as GEM (the initials of their first names).
While some long-time fans of the original girl group were worried that this spelled disaster for their new music, they couldn’t have been more wrong: Song for Her has proven a hit on social media since it was leaked online earlier today, with people going absolutely bananas for the cheesy pop tune (which you can listen to below).
And the #girlpower lyrics are exactly what we need for this post-Trump world.
“This is a song for her, you know you light it up,” the girls sing, continuing: “Because you know who you are, stand up, stand up.
“She’s got that boom boom pop, that’s something they can’t stop.”
Our favourite line, however, has to be: “Wipe off your tears of doubt you have been crying, lift up your dreams and feel like you're flying. Never forget the girl is the woman you are.”
It’s basically 2016’s equivalent of ‘I am woman, hear me roar’ – and we’re obsessed.
It’s official; we’re 13 again.
But, after we pulled ourselves together and stopped dancing around the office, we noticed something special about the ditty – and we’re not the only ones.
In fact, several eagle-eyed fans have pointed out that it begins to fade out at the three-minute mark. Which wouldn’t be a big deal, normally, save for the fact it’s a requirement for the Eurovision Song Contest.
The Spice Girls. At actual Eurovision. We’ll just let that sink in for a moment...
Bunton previously spoke about writing Song For Her, although she told The Sun that it’s not a single – it’s just something that she and her former bandmates did for fun.
She said: “You know, us girls love creating stuff. We went and had a laugh in the studio. It's not a single, it's just we were creating.”
Whether the song is officially released remains to be seen – although it’s definitely got our 12 points for Eurovision 2017.
