South London now has its very own gin bus

Gin is, without a shadow of a doubt, are favourite tipple around – and we’re always looking for a brand-new way to savour it and all of its health benefits. That could be in sampling a plethora of new flavoured spirits, whisking up an exciting ‘Turbo G&T’, or, you know, just taking our tipple outside the four walls of the painfully ordinary pub.

So, naturally, we were very excited to learn that a gin bus has rolled into Bermondsey.

Hot on the heels of last year’s Hendrick’s Extraordinary Roving Bus for Exceptionally Refined Travel (aka H.E.R.B.E.R.T), and the four-floor gin hotel that opened in November, the Bermondsey gin bus is the latest (and some might say greatest) way for all those south of the river to imaginatively enjoy their favourite spirit.

London’s Gin Journey allows passengers to clamber aboard a sleek Mercedes mini bus for a journey around five of London’s hottest gin spots.

From Jensen’s distillery to Draft House’s Bump Caves speakeasy (famed for its VICTORY gin), passengers will learn all about the history of mother’s ruin – with a bona-fide booze expert on hand to answer any questions.

And, as if that didn’t sound amazing enough, everyone aboard the ginny bus – oops, we mean mini bus, obviously – will be treated to five gin samples and five gin-based cocktails.

Fingers crossed nobody gets travel sick, eh?

The folk behind Gin Journey explain: “Gin has got its swagger on and we’re here to tell the story… armed with a gin and a gin cocktail at the end of every chapter of course! It’s like the best history lesson you never had.”

They add: “We bring a fresh approach to a classic subject. Our gin tours blend sumptuous cocktails, craft gins, banging bars, history with humour, a sleek gin carriage (your ride) and inspiring distillery visits, all hosted by our expert Gin Guardians harnessing more character than a Copper Carterhead concoction.”

There is food available at the event, and, while it’s not included in the price of your ticket, we really recommend tucking in and lining your stomach. Remember, you’ll be sipping on 10 alcoholic beverages throughout your journey – and half of those are cocktails. Food is a must.

Tours take place every Saturday from 2pm and cost £70 per person – and, as always, booking is essential

But don’t despair if you don't live in London, because there are stillplenty of ways to indulge in all things gin-based; check out our feature on the best ways to enjoy gin throughout the UK here.

Don't say we never give you anything…
