Scarlett Johansson is terrifying as a sinister snake in The Jungle Book remake trailer
10 years ago
If you're terrified of snakes you might want to look away. Disney has released a first look at the remake of its 1967 animated classic, The Jungle Book, and Scarlett Johansson is stealing the show as the giant python Kaa.
As the trailer for the CGI-heavy, live-action film, navigates us through a lush Indian forest, Johansson's sinister and seductive voice drowns out the quiet tweeting birds.
“Are you alone out here?” she asks. “What are you doing so deep in the jungle?”
We also get glimpses of Mowgli and his animal friends such as Baloo the bear and Bagheera the Panther in the two-minute teaser.
Mowgli is played by 10-year-old American actor Neel Sethi, who was chosen from thousands of children who auditioned for the role in the UK, US, Canada and New Zealand.
Casting director Sarah Finn described Sethi as embodying “the heart, humour, and daring of the character. He’s warm and accessible, yet also has an intelligence well beyond his years”.
Meanwhile, all the other characters are created as computer-generated creatures and voiced by Hollywood's elite, including Idris Elba as Shere Khan, Bill Murray as Baloo, Ben Kingsley as Bagheera, Christopher Walken as King Louie and Lupita Nyong'o as Mowgli's adoptive wolf mother Raksha.
Director Jon Favreau has taken the story - which is based on Rudyard Kipling's book of the same name - to a darker level, which is clear in the sinister trailer below. But don't worry, we get a glimpse of the iconic jovial anthem I Wanna Be Like You right at the end.
Watch the trailer now. It really is too good to miss.
