Two gloriously witchy 90s stars have made a creepy film together

We may not always be on board with the fashion revivals, but if there’s one aspect of our youth we rarely tire of seeing, it’s the stellar film and TV offering. Oh, the Nineties did not give us much sartorially, but entertainment-wise we were practically spoiled.

And our favourite actors have generally accompanied us into adulthood via our TV and cinema screens: Claire Danes, Leonardo DiCaprio, Will Smith, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Katie Holmes, Neve Campbell, any and all of the Friends cast…

Now two gloriously witchy Nineties stars have come together for a new film, and we’re pretty damned excited about it.

Melissa Joan Hart (Clarissa Explains it All, Sabrina the Teenage Witch) and Morticia Addams herself, Anjelica Huston, are bringing The Watcher in the Woods – a creepy reimagining of the Eighties cult hit – to audiences this year.

While we’re big enough to admit we’re not unequivocal fans of remakes and reboots, this sounds pretty fun and has a stellar team involved – Huston plays Mrs Alywood, a distraught mother whose daughter mysteriously vanishes in the English countryside. Meanwhile, Hart brought the heft behind the scenes by directing and executive-producing the supernatural film, which will be shown on Lifetime in October.

Bette Davis played the same role in the 1980 film, which was based on a novel, but judging by the trailer, Hart’s take is rather darker than the Disney original.

The film premieres on Lifetime 21 October.
