Speaking on the main stage at Stylist Live 2023, Roxie Nafousi tells us how you can begin to use manifestation to shape your future.

The word ‘manifestation’ probably isn’t new to you. The internet is alight with the many and varied steps you can take to use it to get what you want, but actually incorporating it into your life can feel overwhelming.

Enter: Roxie Nafousi, who has built a career from her belief that manifesting can help you live your life to its fullest. Nafousi first discovered manifestation when she was going through a particularly hard time – struggling with her mental health and addiction – when a friend introduced her to the practice. Three books later – her most recent, Manifest For Kids, was released earlier this year – she has become the internet’s favourite self-help guru.

At Stylist Live, she sat down to talk us through some of the most important lessons she’s learned and how you can start to use manifestation to shape your own future too.

1. Understand what makes you happy

“The first step to manifesting is understanding what you want. To do that you need to tune out the noise – whether that’s coming from your culture and society, what your friends and family want for you or what you used to want for yourself. Sometimes we can get stuck thinking about a big dream you had, say, two years ago, about wanting to be this or that. But you get stuck when you don’t really want it anymore – you’ve grown and changed. We think: if I’ve changed my mind, does it mean that I’m a failure? When, actually, we need to be flexible with ourselves.”

2. It’s OK if the future feels uncertain

“Some people might not know where they want to be in six months’ time, but they’ll have a better sense of where they want to be in five years. Others might feel like they don’t know what they’ll be doing in five years, but they know where they want to be in a month. It’s important to work with a timeline that makes sense for you. A technique that I use to help figure out where you might want to be is to simply think about your perfect day, rather than the things you want. Imagining this will give you clues as to what it is you’re looking for in life, and what makes you happy.”

3. Gratitude is powerful

“Affirmations of gratitude are really powerful. When you wake up in the morning, your brain is at its most susceptible to positive messages, so the first thing I do is say to myself: Today is going to be an incredible day. I’m so excited for what’s ahead of me. I’m proud of who I am. I am attracting abundance.”
