Slice of bird pie? Now you can go for a disgusting dinner at Mr and Mrs Twit's house

“By sticking out his tongue and curling it sideways to explore the hairy jungle around his mouth, he was always able to find a tasty morsel here and there to nibble on.”

Foul the protagonists may be, there's something irresistible about Roald Dahl's The Twits as a kid – probably something to do with the idea of adults behaving in such a gleefully grotty manner.

Now you're all grown up and classy like, no doubt you're not interested at all in the likes of bird pie and wormy spaghetti. But just on the tiniest off-chance you've got a bit of a thing for unwashed beards, you might be interested to know you can now dine with the deplorable duo.

Yep, you are invited to step inside their ghastly windowless house to enjoy a gloriously disgusting dinner with Mr and Mrs Twit as part of an immersive dining experience in celebration of what would have been the author's 100th birthday this year.

Courtesy of culinary wizards Bompas & Parr (alongside interactive theatre experts Les Enfants Terribles), the hideous hosts will serve up a banquet of gourmet delights/nightmares, such as Mrs Twit's Potent Punch (complete with fish eye) and the aforementioned bird pie, while you enjoy a 90-minute show and probably wipe your mouth on your sleeve, you gross child.

The dinners take place at The Vaults underneath Waterloo station in London and run from 4 September to 30 October. Tickets range from £80 to £110 per person and can be booked online at twitsdinner.com.

Children are not actually allowed (the show is recommended for those aged 16 and over, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult), but feel free to take your own beard to squirrel away a few canapés for the tube home.
