A while back, we brought you the world’s most disgusting cocktails, and now it’s time for these sweet and stomach-curdling cupcakes to take the stage.

The delightfully gory and disgustingly graphic 'treats' come courtesy of Miss Cakehead’s Eat Your Heart Out pop-up - a grim emporium of anatomical and pathologically-inspired goodies.

The cake shop emerged back in 2010, when it repulsed the sweet treat-loving world with disturbingly realistic creations such as squeezable puss cupcakes and human centipede cookies.

This Halloween it's back, making a ghoulish reappearance from the 26-28 October, with an even more varied and disgusting calibre of creative bakes to whet the appetite.

Menu highlights so far include infected eyeball bakes, fungus toe nail cookies, small pox inspired candy bars and cold sore cupcakes.

The ghastly creations certainly break free of your average butterflies-and-flowers cupcake motif, although how edible they are does depend quite a large amount on your gag reflex.

Some of the UK’s most respected baking talent is taking part in this year's Miss Cakehead event. So if you do manage to bite the bullet (so to speak) and sink your teeth into a candied cold sore or a baked heart oozing blood, rest assured that it will probably taste pretty good.

Feeling hungry? This year's Eat Your Heart Out will be held in St Bart’s Pathology Museum London and interested parties can salivate in anticipation with a look at the cake menu here.

Alternatively, if you simply can't wait until the end of October then click here to pre-order a grisly cake or two and pick it up at the event.

Despite their gruesome appearance, we can’t help but love these crazy creations and one thing’s for sure - Eat Your Heart Out poses a important question this Halloween: Trick, or Treat?
