Some drinks just transport you elsewhere: the bowl-sized G&T studded with peppercorns taking you to Spain; the Aperol Spritz landing you outside a bar in summer no matter where you are; the accidental sniff of Archers dropping 17-year-old you on a pavement outside the worst club in town (hey, we didn’t say they’d all take you somewhere good).

How about limoncello? Ice-cold, sweet and sharp at the same time, a citrus digestif capable of making the worst tiny-bit-of-chalked-off-street-outside-a-pub feel like sun-drenched Italy, perhaps?

Well, lucky Londoners, this month limoncello is coming to you, courtesy of a beautiful little yellow van trundling the streets of the capital stuffed full of cocktails.

Pococello, a limoncello made by the people behind Pizza Pilgrims and the team at Chase Distillery, will be available from a converted Piaggio Ape van dubbed Ludo – in both the post-prandial straight shots and creative cocktail mixes, such as a lemony twist on the Negroni and Poco-Tonics, priced at £9.

The van was actually stolen in May, but thankfully the owners tracked it down in time to offer thirsty Londoners a lemony hit throughout June.

With a floating island full of gin and a G&T ice-cream bar, the capital is definitely being spoiled this summer...
