Lidl is selling £3.33 bottles of prosecco – but there’s a catch

From its unexpected health benefits to its deliciously refreshing taste, prosecco is one of our favourite boozy treats – and we’re not the only ones in love with the fizz.

As a matter of fact, the world is filled to the brim with prosecco fans. And, for those who are based here in the UK, we have some very important news: Lidl have just made it even easier (and cheaper) to stock up on bubbles for the big bank holiday weekend.

That’s right: Prosecco Watch have revealed that Lidl are putting on a special deal for the August bank holiday.

According to the bargain-hunting Facebook page, the budget supermarket have printed the offer in their deals round-up magazine, and it’s a humdinger: think a crate filled with six bottles of prosecco for the purse-friendly price of £20 (as opposed to the original £31.50).

The Independent have done the maths and worked out that, at this 35% discount, each bottle costs a cheers-worthy £3.33 instead of the usual £5.79.

We can already hear the clinking glasses.

Unsurprisingly the news has gone down pretty well with Facebook users, who have liked the post over 17,000 times already.

“I'll be at the door for opening,” commented one.

Another added: “We need to get our butts to lidl!!“

And one incredibly excited prosecco fan typed: “WE HAVE TO GET SOME.”

Overall, there’s been a lot of talk about a “prosecco party” – and it has, quite frankly, left us wishing the week away.

Still not sure about the deal – particularly with regards to the quality of the prosecco?

Well, the good news only continues: the Italian Allini Prosecco Frizzante, which Lidl describes as being “typically pear-scented, not too dry”, is said to be “easy drinking” and has been said to be one of the best in the business.

As if that weren’t enough, The Indy named the bubbly beverage as 9th best prosecco late last year, in a line-up which included fizz from both Waitrose and Selfridges.

They said that the “light sparkle in this frizzante lifted the crisp, dry pear flavour” and particularly well suited to a strawberry garnish.  What could be more perfect for a bank holiday weekend?

There’s just one catch: the deal is only available for a very limited time period (think two days over 26-27 August), which means that you’ll have to get your skates on if you want to make the most of it.

We’ll see you at the checkouts…
