Calling all marmite lovers (and we're talking the really devout fans here: the kind that lather it on lumps of cheese or consume it in neat spoonfuls): it's time to stand up for what you believe in.

Marmite, best known for its chirpy tagline "you'll either love it or hate it", has set up a top secret society - and it's on the hunt for fresh recruits.

The Marmarati, as it's known, was set up in 2009 to house super-enthusiasts of the gloopy yeast spread.

As with Opus Dei, The Freemasons and other mystical groups, no-one knows the exact goings-on of the condiment cult. All we do know is the "Inner Sanctum of Marmite" has around 200 members to date, all devoted to "our sticky mistress, Marmite XO."

There's now an opening for 300 more members to join the society, owned by global brand Unilever. Interested parties must prove their dedication to my.mate.marmite in a series of tasks set by "Lord Marmarati."

These include devising a recipe and entering a Marmite photography competition, with submissions judged by current Marmarati members.

The recruitment drive is part of a wider bid to promote the spread's extra-strong variant, Marmite XO. Feeling keen? Trinkets, news "and perhaps much more" await for potential candidates on the Marmarati website.
