Introducing cake dogs: the tasty new treat

Where once upon a time a girl could have her cake and eat it, she can now blend that experience with a passion for pooches.

In a move bound to please dog lovers everywhere, these alarmingly realistic "cake dogs" allow avid fido fans to get their sweet and cute fix simultaneously in one fell scoop of cake.

The eerily life-like creations are the brainchild of Rich and Eddie Lebeau, two artists who made a bulldog birthday cake for a friend a few years ago and launched their business, Cake Doggy Dog, from there.

Orders soon flowed in, with the pair cooking up different breeds of dog in astonishing detail - including edible snouts, claws and even nose wrinkles.

"We were creating cakedogs for all our favourite people of all our favourite dogs, and making realistic cake versions of anything we could think of (cake cheese was a particular favourite!)," they explained.

Though the level of intricacy won't be to everyone's taste, it's little surprise that the cake dogs have been a hit with "dog lovers, cake lovers and lovers of the weird and wonderful everywhere."

For the price of £300, dog owners can capture the personality and character of their pet in cake form, choosing from a variety of vanilla, chocolate or red velvet flavours.
