Behold the avocado rose: our latest food obsession

There’s been so much talk of avocados over the past year you’d have thought we’d all have moved on by now.

On the contrary- we are more obsessed than ever. In fact, London is soon to be home to an avo-only restaurant, and Pret just recently announced that sales of their avocado salads and sandwiches had helped their profits soar.

Now, we’re all going wild over the latest avocado creation: the avocado rose.

The ultimate in Instagrammable foods, the avocado rose has swept social media and food blogs alike, while everyone attempts to perfect theirs.

It’s not a new variety of avocado, though, but a new way of sprucing yours up if you’re bored of slicing it or smashing it or pureeing it into smooth guac.

Thinly sliced into ‘petals’ and presented in a delicate spiral, they require a sharp knife, a ripe avocado pear and some precision cutting.

At the time of writing, there are over 1,400 images under the #avocadorose hashtag, and the number is climbing fast.

Whether you choose to sprinkle yours with sesame seeds and have it on toast, nestle it in a salad or even team it with a fried egg, there is no end to the avocado rose joy.

It’s the ideal way to make your morning toast look that little bit more gourmet...

Or to add a little je ne sais quoi to the presentation of sushi...

Stylish and delicious – what more could we want?

Here's how to make your own...
