Who wants to be a gin butler? It's a real job and we all want it

We’re not sure if you’ve noticed, but we’re pretty much on board with the gin boom here at stylist.co.uk. OK, we’re more than on board, we’re big fans. OK FINE, we’re absolutely obsessed with the stuff and it’s our one true love (despite it possibly meaning we have a “malevolent personality trait”).

But it turns out our juniper-based passion is definitely not a problem, because hot on the heels of the news one can apply for the role of ‘gintern’, the ginny career ladder has added another rung with the position of ‘gin butler’.

Yep, Redherring in Lowestoft, Suffolk, is advertising for a “culturally refined individual” to join the team and “spread the love” about the restaurant’s bi-monthly gin club and stock of more than 50 bottles.

What’s more, they get a salary of £22,000.

According to the online advert, prospective candidates “must love gin” and need at least three years of gin drinking behind them (tick and tick) as owner Andrew Kettlewell tells the BBC he is looking for someone who remembers the days before every town had a micro-distillery on the corner and bars had separate gin menus:

“We require three years or more experience as new age drinkers only see the gin boom as the norm, whereas experienced 'gin swillers' will understand that only a few years ago, everyone just associated Gordon's as pretty much the sole gin company and have seen it develop.”

The ad continues: “The right applicant shall need to be a natural entertainer and must love gin and to be the centre of attention.”

And don’t worry if you’re rather more familiar with another spirit, Kettlewell says ‘rum butlers’ are perfectly welcome too.

The advert can be found here, or the restaurant can be contacted via its website.

Except don't bother because we've already applied, OK?
