Cronut inventor unveils chocolate chip cookie shots

We're a sucker for a foodie-based innovation, especially when it involves the word chocolate. So we're all agog at this new invention from New York-based pasty chef extraordinaire, Dominique Ansel.

Ansel is the man who created the cronut - the croissant-meets-doughnut amalgamation that had gourmands raving last year - so naturally when he chats food, we sit up and take notice.

He's debuted what could be the Next Big Thing to cronuts; the chocolate chip cookie milk shot.

The French baker came up with the idea when he was asked to create snacks for tech conference South By Southwest in Austin, Texas. He had just tried his first Oreo a few weeks ago and people kept on telling him they were good with milk.

Being French, he'd never thought of the cookie-with-milks combination before but he decided that, "if everyone was drinking milk with cookies, you might as well make a dessert that allows them both to be combined" (as he told website Eater).

"Behold the chocolate chip cookie shot - filled with a cold dose of fresh milk. #bestideaever," read a caption beside the photo of the chocolate chip cookie shot on the Dominique Ansel Facebook page.

The cookie casing is apparently crisp enough so it won't go soggy if you drink the milk shot fairly quickly. But you could also use vodka or Bailey's for a party twist on the theme.

The reaction from fans on Facebook was rapturous. "Quite ingenious!! a fun way to enjoy your milk and cookies!" wrote one person, as another added, "Holy crap those look amazing! Please bring to AZ [Arizona]! "

Already, the idea is being mooted that Ansel should call his new creation "Mookies." The cronut, Ansel's other brainchild, set the foodie world alight last year. It's an official trademark but its popularity prompted a flurry of take-offs rolled out around the world (we in the Stylist office tried cro-doughs and can confirm they were delicious).

The growing trend for foodie amalgamations led to the invention of the "Townie" - the tart-brownie (pictured below) - as debuted by artisan bakery Beas of Bloomsbury in London.

There's no word yet on when the chocolate chip cookie shot is set to hit the UK. But we'll be front of the queue when it does.

Now if you'll excuse us, all this chat of food is making us hungry. We're off to score a cookie-milk-tart-brownie-doughnut creation. Or the closest we can find to it...
