Say hello to the cannabis-infused wine which vows to prevent hangovers

Cannabis-infused wine, you say? It’s on its way…

First came cannabis-infused tea. Next, cannabis-infused cosmetics. And now the plant has found its way into our wine, too.

Thanks to America’s Rebel Coast Winery, a sauvignon blanc containing THC (the drug’s primary psychoactive ingredient) is currently in the making. Unlike normal wine, though, the alcohol content is removed and replaced with 16mg of THC.

“After one glass you won’t be thinking your couch is a hippo with short legs or anything,” the site reads. “We set out to mimic the experience you’d find with traditional wine; a couple glasses will put most people in a great place.”

“Winemakers have been making infused wine for years, but no one developed a reliable method to remove the alcohol and infuse it with cannabis’ active ingredients in a way that wasn’t impacting the quality of the wine, so it appealed to both wine and cannabis aficionados,” the brand’s co-founder Alex Howe told Canvas8.

The resulting blend tastes a little like a Sauvignon Blanc: think notes of cannabis, lemongrass, lavender and citrus.

Naturally, cannabis-infused wine comes at a cost – especially as it has to be shipped over from America (it is currently available to pre-order, and postage alone will set you back $59.99 (£47)). However, with 5mg of THC per glass, it could be worth the wait (and cost) for any Marijuana lover.

The best part, though? The winemakers claim it leaves you hangover-free.

Of late, there’s been chatter of the drug being legalised in the UK and the US. It’s currently legal in Canada, and you can’t smoke it everywhere in the Netherlands, but it is legal to do so in coffee shops. In 2013, Uruguay legalised it in a bid to cut crime, and Spain and Portugal have a liberal attitude towards its use, too.

You never know, it could everyone’s favourite tipple at your next dinner soirée.
