Britain's most hated foods revealed

Britain is one of the top foodie destinations in the world but when it comes to eating habits, we still retain some odd prejudices.

A new survey has revealed the UK's most hated cuisine, with olives, blue cheese and oysters all making the list.

Snails - long regarded as a delicacy by our neighbours across the channel - topped the round-up of least desirable dishes in The Fussy Food Nation Report by Hotpoint, as reported in the Daily Mail.

Tripe, oysters and squid came next, demonstrating an emerging trend against fish and seafood. Mushrooms, goat's cheese, black pudding and beetroot also landed places in the top 40 shortlist.

Of the 2000 people questioned, almost 60% said texture was the main reason they were put off a certain food, with smell coming in a close second.

Around 15% said being forced to eat a certain food as a child had put them off it forever and a similar level said they hated particular foods so much it made them physically ill.

What do you think? Are you one of those people who would try anything or do smells/textures/childhood associations put you off certain food? Does the survey's shortlist chime with your own experience of foodie loves/hates? Let us know on Twitter or in the comments section below.
