Days are getting longer, temperatures warmer and icy drinks are slowly replacing eggnog and mulled wine.
Spring means lighter clothes, sun-filled weekends away, garden parties and ice-cold drinks to sip on. And what’s better than a delicious margarita under the mild sun?
If you are a fan of this exotic cocktail as much as we are, here are six recipes to spice up this classic summer drink.
Blood Orange Jalapeño Margarita
Ingredients
- 35ml Don Julio Blanco tequila
- 10ml orange liqueur
- 30ml fresh blood orange juice or purée
- 10ml fresh lime juice
- 1 muddled jalapeño
Method
- Muddle jalapeño in shaker.
- Combine Don Julio Blanco tequila, orange liqueur, fresh blood orange juice, fresh lime juice, and agave nectar into a cocktail shaker with ice.
- Shake well.
- Strain into a rocks glass over ice.
- Rim with sea salt and garnish with a blood orange 1⁄2 wheel.

The Catrina
Ingredients
- 35ml Don Julio Blanco tequila
- 20ml Clementine puree
- 20ml Lapponia cloudberry liqueur
- 15ml Elderflower
- 20ml Lemon juice
- 5ml Vinegar
Method
- Shake all the ingredients.
- Serve without ice.

Tommy's Margarita
Ingredients
- 50ml Don Julio Blanco or Reposado tequila
- 20ml agave nectar water (50/50 nectar and water)
- 15ml fresh lime juice
Method
- Shake the ingredients with ice and then strain into an old fashioned glass filled with fresh cubes of ice.
- Garnish with a wedge of lime (Blanco) or orange (Reposado)

Watermelon Margarita
Ingredients
- 35 ml 100% agave blanco Tequila
- 50ml fresh watermelon juice
- 25ml fresh lime juice
- 10ml sugar syrup
Method
- Add all ingredients into a Boston cocktail shaker, plus ice.
- Give your cocktail a good shake, and strain the cocktail into a chilled cocktail glass.
- Garnish with an oversized Watermelon slice.

Rhubarb Margarita
Ingredients
- 50ml olmeca altos plata tequila
- 25ml lime juice
- 25ml homemade rhubarb syrup (300g chopped rhubarb, 85g caster sugar, 75ml water)
Method
Firstly, we need make the rhubarb syrup.
- Put the sugar and water in a pan and heat gently until the sugar dissolves.
- Add the rhubarb, bring to the boil and cover with a lid reducing to a simmer for around 5-7mins.
- Strain and return the liquid to the saucepan, bring to the boil for a few minutes until you get a syrupy consistency.
To make the margarita:
- Pour all the ingredients into shaker with ice and shake.
- Double strain into a martini glass Garnished with a half rim of salt and lime wedge/wheel.

Basement Bar Tommy's Margarita
Ingredients
- 50ml Arette Blanco Tequila
- 25ml freshly squeezed lime juice
- 25ml 100% agave syrup
- Handful of ice
- Sea salt
- Dehydrated lime slices, to garnish
Method
- Dip your margarita glass in some lime juice and then line the rim with sea salt.
- Pour all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker and shake over ice until fully mixed and ice cold.
- Strain the cocktail and serve over ice or straight up.
- Garnish with some dehydrated lime slices for some extra zing.
