From memes to icks, these are the quirkiest card games to play indoors as the days get cooler.
Whether it’s Taylor Swift playing a card game at a friend’s wedding or Chrissy Teigen bringing an Uno pack to the Oscars, it seems card games are all the rage once again. And we’re here for it.
Packing cards on your summer holidays is usually a given, but playing card games doesn’t have to be just a summer fling. It also makes for a fun and often hilarious indoor activity. And with more and more games being developed, we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to what to play on game nights.
So, if you’re in the mood for something that isn’t Uno, these nine quirky card games are ideal for your evenings and weekends away this autumn.
The Traitors 2023 Special Edition
BBC’s The Traitors had the nation glued to its screens in order to see who came out on top: the traitors or the faithful. And if you’ve ever wondered what you and your friends would be like in this game of deceit, you can now give it a go with a The Traitors card game. The same rules apply – each person is either a traitor or a faithful and everyone has to work together to build up a pot of gold while also trying to banish as many traitors as they can.
Get Wavey
A game of simplicity, Get Wavey involves attempting to read a bunch of wavey-sounding questions from the cards while your teammates have to figure out what the question is and give you the correct answer. Even with no booze involved, this game will leave you slurring your words into the night.
What Do You Meme?
If you back your meme skills, then you’ll be a pro at this game. What Do You Meme is all about creating the ultimate meme, which involves creating the funniest combination of a photo card and a caption card. A rotating judge decides who matched the best caption card with the photo card of that round.
You Can't Say Umm
The aim of the game is pretty much in the title here, and this is a card game where you’re not allowed to hesitate. Easier said than done. Split into two teams, each is racing to get its pieces to the other end of the board by describing objects without saying ‘umm’. And as your team gets closer to the finish line, more and more sounds become off-limits.
Get The Ick
Ever wanted to quiz your friends on their weirdest icks? Well, now you can with the Get The Ick card game. The aim of the game is to predict which icks gross your friends out the most from a set of three card options. You’ll definitely know your friends a lot better after an evening of playing this game.
Calm Your Tits!
The goal? To be the last tit standing. Calm Your Tits! is all about collecting as many cards as possible by shouting ‘Nice tits’ or ‘Tough tits’ when a matching pair shows or for having the quickest reaction when the Fat Balls card appears. It’ll keep you on your toes, that’s for sure.
The Emoji Game
Emojis aren’t just for the group chat. The Emoji Game involves collecting a full set of emotions but they aren’t the only cards in the pack. With a whole host of action cards thrown into the mix, collecting those emotions isn’t as easy as it looks.
Throw Throw Avocado
This game is effectively dodgeball but in a card game. But don’t worry, the avocados are both adorable and made from foam. Throw Throw Avocado is all about earning points by collecting three-of-a-kind cards, but if an avocado card comes up? It’s time to duel it out.
We’re Not Really Strangers
Designed as a test of friendship, We’re Not Really Strangers isn’t afraid to ask the questions that you might have been thinking but have never said out loud. With 150 question cards, you’ll leave no stone unturned and get to know your friends on a whole new level.
