Barack Obama’s incredible response to those President Michelle rumours

In January 2017, the world will watch with one hand over its eyes as famed misogynist Donald Trump attempts to squeeze his vivid orange feet into President Obama’s shoes. Then, for four long years (unless he’s impeached, of course), we will be forced to endure President Trump’s new world; think stricter abortion laws, xenophobic rhetoric, public unrest, discriminatory immigration policies, and more.

However people have already started looking towards the future – and, for many, post-Trump society can only be saved by woman.

Michelle Obama, will you step up to the podium, please?

Thousands upon thousands of social media users have begged the FLOTUS to run for president, with #Michelle2020 trending on Twitter just hours after Trump’s victory was announced.

And it seems as if our cries have not fallen on deaf ears, as even Barack himself has heard them.

But what does he think of his partner running for office in four years?

Well, essentially, he thinks Michelle is too good for the White House.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, he said: “Michelle will never run for office. She is as talented a person as I know. You can see the incredible resonance she has with the American people. But I joke that she's too sensible to want to be in politics.”

So… that’s a no then, we guess.

However, before you despair too much, Obama has reassured the people of America that – after taking a well-deserved family vacation, of course - he and his wife will “continue to be very active” in the world of politics.

I'll spend time in my first year out of office writing a book,” he said, before going on to explain that he intends to set up a training centre for the country’s next generation of leadership.

“[I want them to know] why climate change matters or why issues of economic inequality have to be addressed,” he said, adding that they also need to learn how to use digital and social media to their advantage, too.

Obama finished: “So I will continue to be very active, and Michelle is going to continue to be very active – and [on] the very thing that brought us here, which is our belief that when you work with people on the ground at a grassroots level, change happens. When people feel disconnected from the institutions of government, they can swing back and forth in all sorts of ways.”

It sounds like the Obamas are going to be very busy indeed. But, if Michelle changes her mind about that presidential campaign (and she 100% should), we bet they can find a way to fit it into their schedules – and we’ve no doubt that she’d find an extremely supportive First Gentleman in her husband.
