The return of Gilmore Girls: all your questions answered

After an absence of nine years, the beloved TV show that perfectly captured the zeitgeist is back. Stylist’s Giselle La Pompe-Moore previewed the new season to answer all your questions…

So Gilmore Girls is back. What do I need to know?

For anyone who loved watching the funny, whipsmart Gilmore Girls (single mum Lorelai, played by Lauren Graham and daughter Rory, played by Alexis Bledel) negotiating their way through family and relationship dramas in their hometown of Stars Hollow, 2007 (when the show apparently ended forever) was a difficult time. Fans felt let down by the inconclusive ending about Rory’s relationship status, so it was with some trepidation that I greeted the news they were reuniting for a special four-part series. The 90-minute episodes, which pick up eight years after we last visited Stars Hollow, cover an entire year and are named after the seasons. Fans worldwide have been binge-watching all seven series in anticipation of the new shows.

Am I going to be hooked all over again?

Although the HD quality of the new episodes means the charming graininess of the original has been lost, happily that was the only disappointment. I lapped up every moment of ‘Winter’ even though I still don’t know how I feel about the little secret Rory has been keeping from Lorelai…

Is Rory still struggling with her romantic life?

Whether you’re Team Dean (Jared Padalecki), rooting for bad boy turned author Jess (Milo Ventimiglia) or backing the sometimes arrogant but always adorable Logan (Matt Czuchry), fans have been holding their breath to see if Rory, who was single in the previous finale, has rebounded with one of her exes. All three are returning to the show so the possibilities are intriguing.

Does the show still have its finger on the cultural pulse?

Gilmore Girls was renowned for its spot-on pop culture references (Lorelai once ended a phone call with “See you when Hillary’s President”) and it hasn’t lost its cultural edge. References to Brexit, cosplay and Goop are just a few signs that the show is as sharp as ever. Now all we need is season nine…

Netflix UK will stream all four episodes of Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life from 25 November
