The royal baby shares a birthday with Amy Schumer’s first son, and she made sure to reference that fact in her Instagram announcement.
Royal baby fever has reached an all-time high, with the arrival of baby Sussex on Bank Holiday Monday. But, while the world celebrated the birth of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s son, another new life came into the world across the pond.
Actor and comedian Amy Schumer and her husband Chris Fischer announced the birth of their first child – a son – in the funniest and most low-key way (or ‘the Schumer way’).
“10:55pm last night [03:55 BST on Monday]. Our royal baby was born,” wrote Schumer on her Instagram post. The candid photograph showed the beautiful moment when the new parents met their son for the first time. Fischer kisses his wife in the shot, while Schumer holds onto her sleeping baby.
Schumer had posted a video on her way to the hospital just hours before giving birth, joking about the Met Gala. “Met look this year,” she wrote. “Last night on the way to the hospital.”
This isn’t the first time that Schumer has poked fun by comparing her pregnancy with the Duchess of Sussex’s. When announcing the pregnancy, she posted an image on Instagram that showed her and her Fischer’s faces Photoshopped onto the bodies of the Sussexes on their royal tour of Australia.
In the caption, she said she had “some exciting news”, and asked her followers to visit the author and journalist Jessica Yellin’s Instagram feed for more information. Yellin is a former chief White House correspondent for CNN and the founder of #NewsNotNoise, a campaign in which she tries to break down the world’s biggest political stories for her followers. On her Instagram Stories, she shared a screenshot of a note written by Schumer, in which the comedian listed her recommendations for who to vote for in America’s 2018 midterm elections. And buried at the bottom of the list? The revelation: “I’m pregnant – Amy Schumer.”

We’ve loved the updates that Schumer has shared throughout her pregnancy, showing the progress in a raw, funny and relatable way. Just last week, days before giving birth, she wrote: “Oh yeah does it feel to everyone like I’ve been pregnant for a long time? It must be getting annoying to you all that I’m still pregnant. Well imagine how I feel mother fuckers!!!!!! #soblessed #hatemondaysloveweekendstho.”
And we aren’t the only ones. Hollywood stars have been quick to congratulate Schumer and Fischer, with Jennifer Garner commenting: “Beautiful! What great news, congratulations.”
Sarah Jessica Parker, Gal Gadot , Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain all left their congratulatory comments on the Instagram photo, too.
Maybe baby Schumer hasn’t been outshone by royalty after all, eh?
