Outlander season five is on its way, but first we need to celebrate Halloween. So, it only makes sense to dress up as Claire and Jamie Fraser, right?
Halloween is here, which means that we all have an excuse to dress up as our favourite TV stars. We’ve already been in stitches of laughter over Fleabag fans in fancy dress (Claire’s pencil haircut for the win). And other favourites for inspiration this year include Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Game of Thrones and, perhaps surprisingly, The Powerpuff Girls.
But for Outlander fans, this time of year is all about rolling out the tartan, heating up the hair curling tongs and putting on a (most probably terrible) Scottish accent.
As we prepare for the fifth season of Outlander to hit our screens next year, Halloween is the ideal moment to pay homage to the show’s Emmy Award-winning costumes. Thanks to the time travel storyline, fans have been treated to intricately designed period outfits from different centuries and countries across the last four seasons. We’ve seen Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) wearing every type of incredible dress, from her fitted 40s numbers, to the traditional tartan highlander outfits, and that red silk Parisian ball gown.

As you can imagine, fans have already been showcasing their very best impressions of the Frasers, with some going to extreme lengths to replicate the award-winning wardrobe designs. Quite frankly, they are winning the internet, so we’ve decided to round up the best ones shared by the show’s official Twitter account.
The best Outlander Halloween costumes
The account shared these amazing efforts, which have so far received over a thousand likes.
If there is one thing that we know about Outlander fans, it’s that they are 100% dedicated to their favourite TV show. And these examples prove exactly that.
One couple even included cardboard cutouts of the show’s stars and roped in their two children to wear kilts.
One woman dared to wear the iconic red dress that Claire designs in season two (and she looks equally entrancing in it). And another decided to recreate a scene at the infamous Craigh na Dun rocks. It is unknown if she actually fell through the rocks and travelled back in time.
Another beautiful interpretation of the Parisian red dress, along with a few nods to the original series set in Scotland – Claire would be proud.
This fan decided to channel 1940s Claire, wearing the white dress that she falls back through time in.
And another went a step further by wearing the white dress while recreating the scene in woodlands. She captioned it: “Put on a kilt and call me Sassenach. Episode 1 Claire is my life.”
But what about the stars themselves? Do Sam Heughan and Balfe dress up as their characters over the spooky season? Well, actually, the pair have shared an artistic impression of themselves from a completely different show this year.
One fan account shared a piece of artwork of the two actors re-imagined as Morticia and Gomez Addams from The Addam’s Family (imaginatively renamed “The Frasers Family”). Heughan retweeted the drawing, captioning it: “This is brilliant!”. While Balfe also shared it, writing: “Love this!”
The two stars are currently wrapping up filming of the new season, which is due to be released next year. We are more than certain that, as usual, there will be plenty of scares along the way.
